Countertop FAQs
Straight answers to the questions we hear most.
General
Estimates and Installation
How does the estimate work?
It starts with a free phone consult. Then we visit, measure your cabinets, look at samples with you and give you one written price.
Why don't you list prices online?
Countertop jobs vary too much. Size, layout, the slab you choose, edges and cutouts all change the price, so we measure first and quote in writing.
How long does installation take?
Most installs are finished in 1 to 2 days once the stone is fabricated.
Do you remove old countertops?
Yes. We tear out the existing tops, check the cabinets for level and reinforce the base where needed.
What areas do you serve?
Roseville and nearby cities in Macomb County, plus Harper Woods and the Grosse Pointes. See our service areas page for the full list.
Granite
Granite Countertops
Does granite need to be sealed?
Yes. We seal it at install, and depending on the stone it should be resealed every so often. We tell you the right schedule for the slab you pick.
Can I put a hot pan on granite?
Granite handles heat better than most countertops. A trivet is still a good habit, mostly to protect the finish around seams and edges.
Can I see the actual slab?
Yes, and we recommend it. Because granite is natural, the full slab tells you far more than a small sample.
Will there be seams?
Most kitchens need at least one seam. We plan seam placement during the measure and show you where they will go before we cut.
Quartz
Quartz Countertops
Does quartz need sealing?
No. Quartz is non-porous, so it never needs a sealer.
Is quartz heat resistant?
Not like granite. The resin in quartz can discolor or crack from very hot pans, so always use a trivet.
Can quartz look like marble?
Yes. Many quartz colors are made to look like white marble with gray or gold veining.
Is quartz good for a bathroom vanity?
Yes. It resists stains from makeup and toiletries and needs no sealing, which makes it an easy vanity top.
Quartzite
Quartzite Countertops
Is quartzite the same as quartz?
No. Quartzite is quarried natural stone. Quartz is engineered from crushed quartz and resin.
Does quartzite need sealing?
Yes. It is natural stone, so we seal it at install and recommend resealing over time.
Why do quartzite slabs vary so much?
Each slab comes from a different part of the quarry, so color and veining change from slab to slab. Seeing the actual slab is the best way to choose.
Is quartzite good for an island?
Yes. Its veining and hardness make it a popular pick for islands and waterfall ends.
Marble
Marble Countertops
Does marble stain or etch?
Marble can etch from acids like lemon and vinegar, and it can stain if spills sit. Sealing helps with stains. Etching is a surface change many owners accept as patina.
Is marble good for a kitchen?
It works if you are comfortable with some wear. Many people put marble on an island or baking station and use a tougher stone elsewhere.
Is marble good for bathrooms?
Yes. Vanities see less acid and heat than kitchens, so marble holds up well there.
Polished or honed?
Polished is shiny and shows etching more. Honed is matte and hides it better.

Most kitchen countertop installs are finished in 1 to 2 days once the stone is fabricated.
Do I need to remove my sink and cooktop?

Can you add an island top later?
Yes. We can match or complement your existing counters for a new island.

Bathroom Vanity Tops
What stone is best for a vanity?
Quartz is the lowest upkeep. Marble and quartzite give a natural look and hold up well in bathrooms.
Do you supply the sink?
We can help you select a sink and cut the stone to fit it. Ask about options during the estimate.
Can you do just one vanity?
Yes. We install single vanity tops as well as full-home projects.
Projects
Countertop Replacement
Can you replace countertops without new cabinets?
Yes. Most replacements keep the existing cabinets as long as they are sound.
What happens to my old countertops?
We remove them as part of the job. Ask about haul-away details during the estimate.
Will my backsplash be damaged?
Removing old tops can affect an existing backsplash. We look at it during the measure and tell you what to expect.
